Were you one of those rich kids who got a cellphone right when they came out? Or were you like me and didn't get one until you had a full-time adult job and still had to get the cheapest possible option you could find?
Either way, those who lived through the transition to cellphones will never stop being amazed by them — nor telling youngins how ungrateful they are. And we also really love to laugh at how ridiculous the very first mobile phones were.
But were they really as obnoxious as we remember? One way to figure that out is to consider how much phones have changed in weight. Typically weighing less than half a pound these days, how heavy was the first one?

The answer is: 2.5 pounds. If the first cellphone was also a smartphone, imagine how many people would’ve killed themselves dropping a 2.5-pound brick on their face doomscrolling in bed. Hell, I can’t believe people even wanted to use this thing for calling people. I know we’re more out of shape than ever, but you must’ve really had to want to talk to someone to hold up that much weight to your ear. Source
