Confession time — I have never watched a Super Bowl halftime show. Now that that’s off my chest I can also say I have never watched a Super Bowl game. Yeah, I am a nerd! Instead of watching football I was, I don’t know, playing Final Fantasy or watching Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Even never having experienced a Super Bowl halftime show firsthand, I have seen some pictures and heard how ludicrously extravagant they are. Hearing about all the smoke and lasers makes it sound like musicians are recreating Star Wars up there.
I can’t imagine how expensive all that would be to set up, and I hear that a couple people watch the Super Bowl every year so it must make at least a little money. If it costs you basically $1,000 just to park outside the stadium, the performers must be getting a good cut of that cash, right?

The answer is: $0. The Super Bowl is typically the most viewed TV event each and every year. That’s why so many companies blow their budgets to get a single commercial aired during it, but how much is the Super Bowl shelling out to draw the biggest stars in the world to perform at halftime? Zilch. That’s right, no halftime performer has ever made a cent from the show itself, but simply does it for the exposure. Source
