How old is the oldest living tree?

How old is the oldest living tree?

Last updated: May 29, 2024

As far as I’m concerned, trees are immortal. Unless we cut them down, there’s a fire, or something goes out of its way to actually kill a tree, I don’t think they can die. Seriously, have you ever seen a tree just fall over from old age?

There’s also the whole thing about only knowing how old they are after we chop them down and count the rings. There’s gotta be a less murderous way to find out, right? I’m guessing there is because we somehow know how old the current oldest tree is without, you know, killing it.

Apparently, there’s a difference between how old a grove of trees can be compared to an individual one. If you want to feel young, check out how old this tree is.

Correct Answer: 4,855

The answer is: 4,855. Not only have we identified the oldest living tree, but we even gave it a name and put it under witness protection. Methuselah is estimated to be 4,855 years old, meaning it’s been around since 2833 B.C.! Imagine living for that long being stuck in the same place. Even if it wanted you to, you couldn’t put this geezer out of its misery since its location is kept top secret.Source
