She showed up to a baby's christening uninvited, saw that everyone was having a nice time without her, and decided to curse the infant to die on her sixteenth birthday. When Disney adapted the fairy tale in 1959 as "Sleeping Beauty," they leaned into the evilness and gave her a transformation into a fire-breathing dragon that terrified children. At that point, not even a movie star could rehabilitate Maleficent's image.
