The "Star Trek" salute is from which alien race?

When "Star Trek" needed a distinctive greeting for one of their alien species in 1967, Leonard Nimoy suggested a hand gesture that would become instantly recognizable across generations of fans. Which alien race does the famous "Live long and prosper" salute belong to in "Star Trek"?
▼
Correct Answer: Vulcans
(Source)Both "Live long and prosper" and the salute belong to Spock's people, the Vulcans. Leonard Nimoy created it during production of the 1967 episode "Amok Time" and drew from his Orthodox Jewish upbringing in Boston. As a child, he had peeked during a ceremony at an Orthodox synagogue despite his father's warnings not to look. The hand sign caught on immediately with audiences, but not every cast member found it as easy as Nimoy did. Celia Lovsky, who portrayed the Vulcan high priestess T'Pau, couldn't manage the finger spread naturally and required assistance before each take.
