The answer is: Arson. Sophia was charged with burning down her retirement home, the infamous Shady Pines. Allegedly she’d been negligent while making s’mores with a hotplate. Facing prison at age 85, she tried to flee the U.S. but was stopped by airport security. Charges were dropped after the fire was traced to a faulty heater. Source
