There are few shows as beloved as M*A*S*H. The ensemble comedy-drama was ostensibly a sitcom, but when the situation of the comedy happens to be a war, sometimes things get a bit less silly.
It’s also among the rare group of successful TV shows that were spun off from a feature film. The doctors, soldiers, and guest stars that helped M*A*S*H run for 11 seasons and 256 episodes were so loved by fans that the show’s finale remains the most-watched for any TV show in history to this day.
I mean put Alan Alda on a screen making wisecrack jokes, and I’ll watch the hell out of it.
But if you’re like me, you watched the whole show and never even thought about what its title actually means. What does M*A*S*H stand for?

The answer is: Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. Taking place in Uijeongbu, South Korea, during the Korean War, M*A*S*H had one of TV’s all-time greatest runs from 1972 to 1983. The 4077th MASH unit, standing for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, could simultaneously be wacky and serious, but always beloved.Source
