One could certainly argue that Krusty the Clown is as much an integral part of The Simpsons as the core Simpson family themselves.
He first appeared on the show within a show, "The Krusty the Clown Show”, when The Simpsons still aired as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show in January of 1989. He’s a caricature of a type of performer from times gone by — a clown who hosts local TV shows. Creator Matt Groening grew up watching Rusty Nails on local programs in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, which is partly where he got the inspiration for Springfield’s iconic clown.
Krusty has lived one hell of a life according to the show, including having been married to both Mia Farrow and Eartha Kitt, being the half-brother of Luke Perry, and owning the franchise restaurant brand Krusty Burger. But just as Rusty Nails probably wasn’t really named that, Krusty has a real name too. Well, a real fictional name. What is it?
