Not only that, but they had already released GTA: III and GTA: Vice City on the PS2, and the PS3 was only two years away. But none of that mattered to fans of the franchise, because GTA: San Andreas was just literally built different. Its nearly 18 million units sold was powered by the largest map by far in GTA up to that point, a really good storyline, and even the stupid ability to make CJ gain and lose weight and have it affect gameplay. San Andreas nearly outsold both III and Vice City combined on just the PS2, and across all platforms is still way ahead of GTA: IV.
