The PlayStation 2 is the undisputed king of gaming consoles, moving a ridiculous 157 million units and making it the best-selling video game platform of all time. With such a massive install base, the PS2 created a feeding frenzy for game developers and publishers who all wanted to claim their piece of this enormous market. What was the best-selling video game on the PS2?

Correct Answer: Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
(Source)By the time Rockstar released Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the PS2 was already four years old (exactly four years old in North America). Not only that, but they had already released GTA: III and GTA: Vice City on the PS2, and the PS3 was only two years away. But none of that mattered to fans of the franchise, because GTA: San Andreas was just literally built different. Its nearly 18 million units sold was powered by the largest map by far in GTA up to that point, a really good storyline, and even the stupid ability to make CJ gain and lose weight and have it affect gameplay. San Andreas nearly outsold both III and Vice City combined on just the PS2, and across all platforms is still way ahead of GTA: IV.
