Charlie the Tuna spent decades confusing the two, pitching himself to StarKist like an underwater beatnik convinced his record collection would land him on someone's melt. Copywriter Tom Rogers created the bit while working at Leo Burnett in 1961, and "Sorry, Charlie" swam straight into American vernacular.
