What is the name of the desert planet in "Dune"?

Frank Herbert's 1965 novel "Dune" is set on a desert planet that's both the most valuable and most miserable place in the known universe. Giant sandworms tunnel beneath endless dunes, there's zero rainfall, and you'll be dead from dehydration in a few hours if you forget your moisture-recycling bodysuit. What's the name of the desert planet in "Dune"?
▼
Correct Answer: Arrakis
(Source)When Herbert was developing his desert world, he borrowed the name from astronomy. Arrakis is an alternative name for the star Mu Draconis. It's derived from the Arabic word ar-rāqiṣ, which means "the dancer." It's a surprisingly poetic name for a planet where everything tries to kill you. The characters in the book refer to it more casually as "Dune," and that's where the book title comes from. Herbert's original plan was to set the story on Mars but he felt like readers would have too many preconceived ideas about the red planet. His fictional version was incredibly influential, I mean George Lucas basically lifted the whole desert planet concept when he made "Star Wars" about a decade later.
