The sun rises and sets. Humans can't fly. Mario is a plumber. These are some of the basic truths of life as we know it.
He's easily the most famous plumber in all of history. Mario became so popular that he's the de facto mascot not just for Nintendo, but for the entire video game industry. His big nose, mustache, signature hat, and overalls have graced countless games, shirts, puzzles, backpacks, tattoos, and literally anything else you can put an image on.
And yet, he wasn't even originally a plumber.
Take a moment to just soak that information in, and then see if you can figure out what his original job was.

Correct Answer: Carpenter
The answer is: Carpenter. When Mario made his debut appearance in 1981's Donkey Kong, he was actually a carpenter. Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo mastermind and Mario's creator, wanted his profession to fit the setting.Since it was a construction site, I guess there was a carpenter hanging out who decided to stand up to that mean gorilla. When Mario Bros. came out, taking place mostly underground, Mario became a plumber to fit the setting — and I guess Mario was just really happy with that career choice, since he never changed jobs again (besides that stint as a doctor, but we don't have time for that rabbit hole right now).Source
