I’m a sucker for any time people take a Shakespeare play and put it in a modernized setting. I saw A Midsummer Night's Dream set in the ‘80s recently and nearly cried with joy.
So the plot of Steven Spielberg’s 1991 adventure classic, Hook, is an easy one to, er, hook me in. In the movie, Peter Pan decides to leave Neverland and grow up. We find him as an adult who has completely forgotten about his fantastical and extremely long childhood.
Plus, in addition to Robin Wiliams brilliantly portraying the lead protagonist, there’s a litany of the finest actors from the time filling in the other iconic roles: Julia Roberts as Tinker Bell (aka Tink), Bob Hoskins as Mr. Smee, and of course Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook himself.
Since Peter has a bit of amnesia, he no longer goes by that storied name. What name does Peter Pan go by as a disillusioned adult?

The answer is: Peter Banning. What if Peter Pan chose to leave Neverland? Apparently, he’d become a workaholic lawyer and go by the name Peter Banning. At least, that’s according to this ’90s modern fantasy from Steven Spielberg. In the film, after Peter decides he wants to leave Neverland (because of a GIRL, of course) Wendy ends up helping him to get adopted by an American couple named Hank and Jane Banning.
