Looking like living teddy bears, koalas are famous for being some of the pickiest eaters in the animal kingdom. These Australian icons spend most of their time dozing in trees, waking up only to stuff their faces on some very specific plant life. What plant makes up almost all of a koala's diet?

Koalas are the ultimate food snobs, munching exclusively on eucalyptus leaves despite it being so toxic it would kill practically any other animal. These fuzzy little guys evolved a specialized digestive system that turns deadly plant matter into lunch and allows them to eat up to two and half pounds of the stuff everyday. But everything about Koala's is always a just a little... strange, so it's no surprise that this complex digestive process takes some time to develop. But what is surprising is how babies develop the stomach bacteria needed to handle it. Let's just refer to as nature's most disgusting smoothie and leave that for another day.
