As Elton John winds down what by all accounts is one of the all-time greatest careers of any musician to have ever lived, it's fair to wonder if he'll play one particular song live ever again.
Currently embarking on what he's called his final tour (or by the time you're reading this, perhaps it's already over), Elton John is known as a crowd pleaser. It's not often that you wouldn't hear the majority of his most popular songs at a show.

The answer is: Candle in the Wind 1997. Following the tragic death of Diana, the Princess of Wales, thousands of mourners gathered to say their goodbyes and write in the book of condolence at St. James's Palace in London. After noticing many of those writings were quoting "Candle in the Wind," Richard Branson contacted Elton John to ask about revising the lyrics of his 1973 hit. Considering the Princess a very close friend, John contacted his partner, Bernie Taupin, and together they revised the lyrics to honor Diana.John performed the song, dubbed "Candle in the Wind 1997," on September 6, 1997, in Westminster Abbey at the funeral of Princess Diana. Though he continues to perform the original version of the song, he has never performed the 1997 song live again and repeatedly denies any request for the revised version — despite it being the second best-selling physical single ever.Source
