People from other countries really like to give Americans a hard time about how new things are. We get it — they've got castles, plagues, really old books, all that stuff. But there's one thing we have they don't that goes way way way back: Baseball.

The answer is: Cincinnati Red Stockings. The Cincinnati Red Stockings fielded the first known professional team way back in 1869. They also had a song they liked to sing to the fans before games, which began: "We are a band of baseball players / From Cincinnati city..."Source
