Oreo cookies have unleashed a tsunami of wild flavors over the years, from Swedish Fish to Wasabi to something called "Lady Gaga." But long before they got experimental with their cream filling, Nabisco played it relatively safe with their first venture beyond the classic chocolate sandwich. What was the original Oreo variation?
▼
Correct Answer: Lemon
The Lemon Meringue Oreo was not the fruitful beginning of Nabisco's hopeful flavor empire. Possibly even launching with the classic flavor, the citrus-filled snack flopped spectacularly with customers and vanished from shelves faster than you can say "milk's favorite cookie," sending Nabisco running back to their classic vanilla cream filling for decades. Thank god they eventually got back to experimenting, because how else would we know that candy corn is terrible in all forms if we couldn't first try it between Oreo cookies?
