According to the Cleveland Clinic, symptoms of sleep deprivation include reckless behavior, hallucinations, and can eventually lead to really bad stuff like heart attacks and strokes. So yeah, it's bad for you, and the only legitimate reason to purposely avoid sleep is if you'll be murdered by a ghost in your dreams.
But that hasn't stopped people from seeing just how long they can go without any shut-eye. Most of us have pulled all-nighters or gone a few days with just a small amount of sleep, but trust me, you're not approaching the record. That's like if you walked a mile one time and decided you're pretty much Eliud Kipchoge.

Correct Answer: 18 days and 21 hours
The answer is: 18 days and 21 hours. The Guinness World Record for staying awake stands at 453 hours and 40 minutes, or 18 days and 21 hours. Broken by Robert McDonald in 1997, it will stand in perpetuity — Guinness stopped accepting new attempts because not sleeping that long is, you know, super bad for you.Source
