If you’re ever in Honolulu, and you get offered the chance to take a three-hour tour on a charter boat… well, you should probably take it, because I bet it will be beautiful. But, you’ll definitely hear the lines from that famous theme song knocking around in the beach of your head:
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale
a tale of a fateful trip,
that started from this tropic port,
aboard this tiny ship.
The mate was a mighty sailin' man,
the Skipper brave and sure,
five passengers set sail that day,
for a three hour tour,
a three hour tour.
Despite the fact that "Gilligan’s Island" only ran for three seasons, from 1964 to 1967, it entertained generations of fans thanks to a thriving second life in reruns. Well into the ‘80s, kids were watching the failed escape attempts of Gilligan, The Skipper, Ginger, and the rest of the gang.
Somehow guest stars seemed to often show up as island visitors, despite the fact the island was uncharted — and they never seemed to want to help the stranded passengers. Strange.
If the gang could have just repaired the boat, maybe they could have gotten off that island sooner. Then again, that would have left us with even fewer episodes. What’s the name of that boat, anyway?

The answer is: S. S. Minnow. The iconic charter ship has a couple of meanings. First, the obvious play on minnows, the tiny fish often used as bait. But there’s also a rumor that creator Sherwood Schwartz used it as a play on the name of FCC Chairman Newton Minow, who Schwartz believed “ruined television”.Source
