When were the first Olympic Games that we know of held?

It's also a great reminder that the vast majority do not nor will ever have any meaningful athletic ability.

The answer is: 776 B.C. There could have been some before, but the first time the Olympics were held that we can be sure of was in the good old days of 776 B.C. The reason we know this is because it was the first time any written record of the games was made, and back then there was only one game — a 192-meter footrace. Apparently, a cook named Corobus won, making him the first gold medalist in known history. But what was his best dish??Source
