
I bet you’re one of those people who think Barbie and Ken are nothing more than dolls for kids. Shameful!
Well, I mean, that’s mostly what they are, but even before Greta Gerwig’s bajillion-dollar movie came out, there was actually a lot more going on with those two than most people gave them credit for. Over the years there have been animated series, comic books, video games, and more.
Not to mention, there are well over 1,000 variations of Barbies out there, and that’s by conservative estimates.
But it was back in the 1960s when Mattel was still trying to get the word out about Barbie and her sometimes BF Ken, that a series of novels were published that gave them both robust and surprising backstories, including where they grew up. Where are Barbie and Ken from?
