Where does the butler try to send the cats in "The Aristocats"?

Last updated: December 24, 2025

The evil butler scheming to steal an inheritance is a classic movie villain, so when Disney wanted to tackle the trope in "The Aristocats," they needed a twist. What if it was the evil butler vs. cats? When Edgar the butler overhears that Madame Adelaide plans to leave her fortune to her beloved felines, he panics and decides to get rid of them immediately. Where does Edgar try to send the cats in "The Aristocats"?

Correct Answer: Timbuktu

You're lying if you say you don't sympathize with Edgar, at least a little. He's been a loyal butler for years, and now he learns he has to wait for four cats to die before he inherits anything. If you figure there's four of them, and they live for roughly 12 years, and they each have nine lives, that's like, 430 years or something (I don't know, I'm a trivia guy not a math guy). After his first plan to just drop them off in the countryside ends in failure and a few bite marks on his leg, he tells Duchess and her kittens, "You're going to Timbuktu if it's the last thing I do." Edgar prepares a trunk to ship the cats, but during his final fight with Thomas O'Malley the alley cat, Edgar is the one who ends up taking a very long trip far, far away.
