Which movie earned Meryl Streep her first Oscar?

Meryl Streep is the kind of actress who makes other actors nervous just by existing. She disappears into every role, nails every accent, and has won three Oscars out of a staggering 21 nominations. Which film earned Meryl Streep her first Oscar?
▼
Correct Answer: Kramer vs. Kramer
(Source)Streep has received at least one Oscar nomination in five of the last six decades (the 2020s are only halfway done, so she can still make it six for six). Her first nomination came in 1978 for "The Deer Hunter," but she didn't win. The following year, she showed up to play Joanna Kramer in "Kramer vs. Kramer" and hated how the character was written in the original script. She rewrote her own dialogue to make her more sympathetic, and the gamble paid off. After just 12 days of shooting, she walked away with Best Supporting Actress.
