"Stargate" is the only original alien film among these sci-fi staples. While Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin's 1994 hit spawned multiple TV series and a devoted fanbase, the other films are remakes of 1950s classics. The movie actually started as Emmerich's college thesis film idea about ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs coming to life - he just needed $55 million more than his student budget to make it happen.
