Which characters briefly replaced Bo and Luke on "The Dukes of Hazzard"?

Last updated: February 25, 2026

Considering "The Dukes of Hazzard" was making nearly $200 million a year in merchandise, you'd think paying the stars what they're owed would be the easy call. Warner Bros. disagreed, and when the stars walked, two actors were hastily hired to play the original Duke boys' cousins. It became one of TV's most notorious casting disasters. Which characters briefly replaced Bo and Luke Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard"?

Correct Answer: Coy and Vance

Believe it or not, TV audiences do actually get used to specific actors on TV shows, and they watched "The Dukes of Hazzard" for more than just an orange car. The show's creator warned executives that audiences wouldn't accept character clones, but writers went ahead and just crossed out "Bo" and "Luke" and scribbled in "Coy" and "Vance."

The creator was right. Ratings in key demos dropped 40 percent, the toy division lost $25 million, and after 19 episodes Warner caved and brought the originals back from their fictional NASCAR adventure. In this business, money talks, even if the stars walked.
