Which U.S. city famously dyes its river green for St. Patrick’s Day?

Turning a river bright green by dumping powder into it sounds like the kind of thing that lands you in handcuffs, not the kind of thing that draws tourists by the thousands. Which U.S. city has been famously dyeing its river green for over 60 years in honor of St. Patrick's Day?

Correct Answer: Chicago
(Source)Once a city gets big enough it shouldn't be allowed to have a gimmick (sorry if that makes me the fun police). Chicago's tradition started in 1962 when someone noticed the dye they were using to track sewage leaks and thought "wow, that would look great in the river." Technically, the powder is orange and only becomes green when it hits the water. If you're wondering how bad this is for the environment, just know that the river used to be such a toxic dumping ground that it bubbled. Mystery powder is an improvement.
