You hear "Gene Wilder" and your brain goes straight to "Blazing Saddles," "Young Frankenstein," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." The man did show up on television as early as 1961, but nobody ever considered him a TV actor. Which sitcom earned him his only Primetime Emmy Award?
▼
Correct Answer: Will & Grace
(Source)Outside of a recurring animated segment on "The Electric Company" and one ill-fated season of his own NBC sitcom "Something Wilder," Wilder barely ever visited our living rooms. He was a big screen guy, but in 2002 he stepped onto the small screen for a two-episode role on "Will & Grace" to play Will's unhinged boss, Mr. Stein. Wilder brought the whole toolkit to the role, even sneaking in a direct Willy Wonka callback and an outtake reference to "Young Frankenstein." His very last acting role turned out to be the one that won him an Emmy, and then he walked off into retirement with the trophy like the legend he is.
