Which daytime soap was Richard Dean Anderson on before “MacGyver”?

Five years on a soap is enough time to either become a daytime lifer or become very ready to quit. Richard Dean Anderson chose the latter in 1981, quitting a top-rated daytime drama to chase a career he didn't have yet. A few years later, he became TV's most resourceful action star. Which daytime soap did Richard Dean Anderson walk away from before "MacGyver"?
▼
Correct Answer: General Hospital
(Source)Anderson aired his grievances on the way out, telling Daytime TV that he had too much energy just to stand still. Dr. Jeff Webber had been his day job on "General Hospital" since 1976, and by year five, he was done. The next four years brought a "Love Boat" guest spot, a regular role on a short-lived "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" adaptation, and an uncredited drug dealer in "Young Doctors in Love." Then ABC handed him a Swiss Army knife, and Anderson never had to worry about creative growth again.
