Which movie beat "Star Wars" for Best Picture at the Oscars?

"Star Wars" made the jump to theaters in 1977 and became the highest-grossing film ever made (for a while). It racked up 11 Academy Award nominations the following spring, tied for the most of any film, but left the ceremony with only technical wins. Which film beat "Star Wars" for Best Picture?
▼
Correct Answer: Annie Hall
(Source)Unlike us nerds, critics don't vote with their dollars, which means Best Picture has never been a popularity contest. That year, they went with "Annie Hall," where Woody Allen wore so many hats that he became only the second person to earn Oscar nominations for acting, directing, and writing the same film. The movie won four Oscars that night, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actress for Diane Keaton. Allen skipped the ceremony to play his standing Monday-night clarinet gig in New York.
