Who performed the hit song "Walk Like an Egyptian"?

It feels like a stretch when songwriter Liam Sternberg says he was inspired to write "Walk Like an Egyptian" after watching seasick passengers stumbling on a ferry, but I guess I kinda see it? Regardless, the song became a hit in the '80s and spent a month on top of the Billboard Hot 100. Which band was able to dig up a top-charting single when they released "Walk Like an Egyptian"?

Correct Answer: The Bangles
(Source)If I ever start a band, history tells me I should just start releasing music I hate because those are always the ones that make it to the top. When producer David Kahne played the record for The Bangles, drummer Debbi Peterson thought it was pretty stupid. The band had already been performing in the LA rock scene, so a goofy novelty song wasn't really their style. Kahne basically tricked Peterson by telling her she'd be doing the lead vocals for the song, and then turned around and not only had the other girls sing the verses instead, but he also replaced her drums with a machine. Forget walking, I'd be suing like an Egyptian. But Billboard named it the biggest song of 1987, so I guess they were all laughing like an Egyptian all the way to the bank.
