Who was the original host of "Password"?

Game shows are a tricky thing to figure out. You need a simple enough premise that viewers can follow, but unique enough that they stick around. So when Bob Stewart created "Password," I don't think "let's have people yell words at each other until they guess the right one" would've cut it. But when one of the shouters is Carol Burnett, Peter Lawford, or Zsa Zsa Gabor? Now we're talking. Which TV personality completed the winning formula as the show's first host?

Correct Answer: Allen Ludden
Allen Ludden took the hosting reins when "Password" premiered on CBS in 1961, making the word-guessing magic happen every weekday. His natural enthusiasm helped him win the real jackpot when he met his future wife Betty White during a taping. Her recurring appearances and the banter of the two love birds only added to the shows award-winning charm. The original show ran until '67, but did so well in reruns that ABC couldn't resist bringing both the show and Ludden back for another run from '71 to '75.
