Waking up on Monday morning and immediately wishing you could go back to bed is a universal feeling. The Bangles captured it perfectly with their 1986 hit "Manic Monday," but the band didn't write the song, and it wasn't even originally written for them. Who was the songwriter that rhymed "I-don't-have-to-run day" with Sunday and Monday?

Correct Answer: Prince
(Source)Yes, the lyrics are a bit cheesy, and everybody knows Saturday is the real fun day, but I'll accept whatever Prince says. "Manic Monday" was originally written for Apollonia 6 under his pseudonym, "Christopher," but he pulled the track and just let it sit there until he came across the video for the Bangles' "Hero Takes a Fall." He liked the group (specifically bandmate Susanna Hoffs, according to rumors) and the song so much that he performed it onstage with them. He prepared a mixtape for the group that included "Manic Monday," and after adding some Bangles magic to Prince's royal writing, they had a song that almost hit the top of the charts. It peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, blocked by "Kiss" from... Prince. Yea, he's just that good.
