Aside from turkey itself, there isn’t anything more synonymous with Thanksgiving than the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, where giant balloons of mascots only parents recognize are dragged through the streets of New York while thousands of people freeze their butts off trying to pretend it's a good time.But Macy’s wasn’t the first to try and monopolize on marketing rights to the holiday. Gimbels actually beat them to the punch by four years, but held the parade in Philadelphia and featured clowns. It still limps on, but is nothing compared to its New York counterpart.Source
