June 23 in Nerd History
Here are 5 things that happened on June 23 that matter to those of us who still think 64 bits sounds like a lot.
I.
Birthdays of honor: Alan Turing (1912), June Carter Cash (1929), Selma Blair (1972), Frances McDormand (1957).
II.
On this day in 1991, a little blue animal entered our lives and changed them forever when Sonic the Hedgehog was released for the Sega Genesis.

III.
Tim Burton graced us with his vision of Batman in 1989, on the same day another genius film was released: Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.

Don’t even tell me trudging through that backyard didn’t look fun as hell.
Also, Nick says it’s the equivalent of 3.2 miles to get back to the house through the backyard — or roughly the distance of a 5K race. Even if you walk a 5K, it might take you an hour or so. So why does it take them so damn long?!
IV.
In 1996 Nintendo was all like, “Hell no we ain’t done with bits!” when they released the N64 in Japan, alongside the groundbreaking Super Mario 64.
V.
In 1987 the soon-to-be pop star Tiffany, at age 15, began her mall tour in — where else? — Bergen Mall in Paramus, New Jersey. By November she had a no. 1 hit with her cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now”, with a video that pays homage to her mall roots.
