(Source)At a 1985 concert in Ohio, Buffett looked out at the crowd wearing Hawaiian shirts and parrot hats and commented on how his fans just kept coming back to his shows. Timothy B. Schmit, who was playing bass in the Coral Reefer Band, coined the term "Parrot Head," referencing the Grateful Dead's own Deadhead fanbase. The name stuck and now there are more than 200 registered clubs honoring the term and the Buffett lifestyle worldwide, with the first official Parrothead club founded in Atlanta in 1989.
