No matter what you think about the line of dolls, it’s hard to argue with the sheer perseverance of Barbie.
The brand has adapted to seemingly every era of popular culture since its inception, and to this day finds new ways to leave its mark on society. It’s one of those brands that’s synonymous with the product — you can just as easily insult someone by telling them to go play with their dolls or their Barbies.
Except for millions of people, that ain’t no insult.
When did Barbie first get introduced to the world?
▼
The answer is: 1959. The iconic Barbie doll was introduced to the world on March 9, 1959, at the American Toy Fair in New York City. Barbie was the creation of Ruth Handler, who co-founded Mattel with her husband in 1945. Barbie was the first mass-produced doll in the U.S. that had adult features. Ken showed up about two years later. But who cares about Ken anyways?Source
