Who won the Oscar for Best Actor in 1976?

Last updated: December 4, 2023

1975 was a good year for movies: Jaws, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Rollerball — I could go on, but unlike your coworkers, I respect your time.

Which meant that the Academy Awards of 1976 had a pretty big pool to pick from. Of all the excellent performances that year, only one actor could take home the big one.

Who do you think took home the Oscar for Best Actor in 1976?

The answer is: Jack Nicholson. Coming out in 1975, Nicholson was a shoo-in for the Best Actor award at the 1976 Academy Awards for his portrayal of Randle McMurphy in the classic, One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest. In fact, Cuckoo made a clean sweep of the major awards (Best Picture, Actor, Actress, Director, Screenplay). Take that, Nurse Ratched.Source
