Actor Robert Englund (1947) played resistance fighter Willie on "V," then slipped on the bladed glove to become horror icon Freddy Krueger across the whole "A Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise. Comedian-actress Sandra Bernhard (1955) stole "The King of Comedy" as obsessive fan Masha and won a National Society of Film Critics Award for it, then settled in as Nancy Bartlett on "Roseanne." She spun "Without You I'm Nothing" from a one-woman stage show into a film and an album, and lately she's Nurse Judy on "Pose" and Cecily on "Severance."
Musician Steve Vai (1960) got his start transcribing Frank Zappa's songs as a teenager and earned a spot in Zappa's band, then went full guitar hero on David Lee Roth's "Eat 'Em and Smile" and a run with Whitesnake. The three-time Grammy winner then went solo and planted his flag with "Passion and Warfare."
Actor Paul Giamatti (1967) broke big as cartoonist Harvey Pekar in "American Splendor" and the merlot-hating sad sack in "Sideways," and he picked up an Oscar nomination for "Cinderella Man." He took home an Emmy and a Golden Globe playing the title role in "John Adams," carried "Billions," and grabbed another Golden Globe as the grumpy prep-school teacher in "The Holdovers."
