Finish the lyrics: “Hello darkness, my old friend”

Paul Simon wrote one of the most hauntingly beautiful opening lines in pop music history when he penned "The Sound of Silence" in the early 1960s. That first line immediately draws you into a conversation with loneliness itself, and the struggle to communicate in an increasingly disconnected world. What comes after that iconic greeting?

Correct Answer: "I've come to talk with you again"
(Source)"I've come to talk with you again" continues the dialogue between Simon and the darkness as a character. The song originally appeared on Simon and Garfunkel's 1964 debut album "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M." and pretty much nobody noticed it at first. The duo broke up because the album flopped so hard, but producer Tom Wilson had other plans. He decided to remix the track without telling Simon or Garfunkel, adding electric instruments and drums to their acoustic folk song. The electrified version started getting radio play and became such a massive hit that it reunited the duo and launched them to superstardom. Paul Simon was living in England at the time and had no idea his song was climbing the charts until someone told him he had a number one hit back in America. The opening lines have since become some of the most recognizable in popular music, covered by everyone from Disturbed to countless karaoke singers.
