Musicians love their alter egos. Some use them to tap into confidence they don't normally feel. Others use them as a shield for their darkest thoughts. One rapper created an alter ego that became more famous than his real name. Slim Shady was the alter ego of which rapper?

If there's an Eminem lyric from the last 25 years that really offended you, the rapper will probably put the blame on Slim Shady. After his 1996 album flopped and he got evicted from his home, Eminem created Slim Shady as the perfect place to put all his anger. Dr. Dre heard a demo and immediately told Jimmy Iovine that they needed to find the guy behind it and sign him. His second release, "The Slim Shady LP," sold 5 million copies and won Best Rap Album at the Grammys.

Despite more than 25 years with the persona, Eminem decided it was finally time to move past it. He officially killed off the character in 2024 with "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)," which debuted at number one and closed the book on the alter ego that launched his career.
